Rotten Robbie Saver Club Card

We are excited to announce the release of the Rotten Robbie Saver Club card - a fuel discount card that provides customers with instant rollbacks of up to 10 cents per gallon. Because this is a checking card, we do not have to pay credit card swipe fees - and instead pass the savings on to you!

The program is free. You can pick up an application at any Rotten Robbie location.

Construction in Lakeport Complete!

As of 11/30, we have finished construction and reopened fueling at our #65 location in Lakeport, CA! We replaced all of our tanks (as seen in the image) and slightly rearranged our pumps to make it more convenient for diesel customers with larger vehicles. Thank you to all of our Lakeport customers for being patient with the construction; we hope you like the new station!

Stay tuned for photos of what our Lakeport location looks like after construction!

Gas Prices Through the Roof!

Since the middle of last week, the wholesale price of gasoline has increased about $1 per gallon.  Retail prices have followed, in some cases, reaching the record highs set in 2008 when crude oil jumped to almost $150 per barrel.  This time the price spike is caused by California refinery problems, not rising oil prices and is isolated to California and gasoline.  Diesel prices increases have been significantly less.  Since the fire at the Chevron refinery in Richmond, gasoline inventories have been low.  These low inventories coupled with refinery maintenance and unplanned problems at other refineries have created a wild trading market with no apparent ceiling on prices.

Retailers deal directly with consumers who are saddled with these higher prices.  We recognize the significant burden these high prices place on household and company budgets.  It is always difficult to predict how long or high prices will go.  Generally these types of problems are resolved fairly quickly.  Hopefully this is the case this time.

Rotten Robbie Donates $1,225 to District 59 Little League

Robinson Oil Corporation (dba Rotten Robbie) is a proud sponsor of the San Jose Giants. Every season, Rotten Robbie donates $25 per home run made by the San Jose Giants at a home game to the District 59 Little League. This season, the SJ Giants made 49 home runs - we were excited to donate $1,225 to the Little League. We are a local business, and enjoy cheering on our local teams. See you at the stadium next season!

Gas Prices & The Chevron Refinery Fire

Most of you have either seen on TV or heard about the Chevron Richmond Refinery fire Monday evening (8/6).  Due to this, the markets went wild on Tuesday (8/7).  Wholesale gas prices jumped over $.30 per gallon and diesel jumped up over $.20 per gallon.  The market is more settled today, but it will be interesting to see what happens in the next few days as Chevron learns about the extent of damage done to the refinery.

Normally a fire like this causes a lot of damage and the Chevron Richmond Refinery is a large refinery.  We try to remain as competitive as we can.  As an independent retailer, our wholesale prices tend to go up faster than our branded competitors, which affects us at the pump.  We will know better over the next few days how much this fire will impact prices, but for now, unfortunately, they are going up.

Rotten Robbie Joins Growing Ranks of Merchants Opposing Settlement with Visa, MasterCard

We just sent out this press release yesterday in response the proposed settlement of the anti-trust litigation against the credit card companies:

July 30, 2012- Robinson Oil Company, which operates the Rotten Robbie chain of convenience stores and fuel stations, announced that it opposes the proposed settlement of longstanding antitrust litigation between retailers and the credit card industry.  The proposed settlement, announced on July 13th, does not make meaningful changes to the broken credit card swipe fee market and it broadly restricts merchants’ rights to challenge the card industry’s anticompetitive practices in the future.  The proposal offers no long-term relief for retailers or consumers from increasing swipe fees or from unfair credit card network rules and it will not keep the card networks from continuing to raise swipe fees, which already cost retailers and consumers around $50 billion per year.  Merchants have been fighting for years to bring real competition and transparency to the credit card market.  The proposed settlement does not achieve those objectives.  Rather than accept this flawed settlement, Robinson Oil Company urges everyone in the merchant community, including those representing the class of merchants around the nation, to work toward a real solution to the problem caused by the card companies’ anticompetitive conduct.

Rotten Robbie Donates San Jose Bag Fee to Gaudalupe

As many of you know, San Jose requires retailers to charge at least $0.10 for bags.  Rotten Robbie has decided to donate all the donations from these bag fees to the Guadalupe River Park Conservancy.  We have donated to them in the past and felt that since these bags often end up in parks and rivers, they were an ideal group to receive these proceeds. If you want more information about what they do check out their link: http://www.grpg.org/.
